SURFACE PREPARATION
Curing Period and Surface Preparation for tiling on problem substrates.
All the following preparations are in accordance with the SABS code of practice for the Design and Installation of Ceramic Tiles SABS 01071996. This is the official standard for Tiling in South Africa.
The following recommendations are based on the assumption that normal unmodified Ezee Tile Adhesive will be used in these areas. However, should one wish to tile earlier than the specified period below, one must consult the Ezee Tile Technical Department for further information.
For the purpose of our Web Site we have also included the names of Prominent house brands that can also be used, obtainable from any of their stores.

| 1 Surface | Preparation |
| Off shutter concrete and steel Troweled concrete, screed or plaster. | Area to be acid washed to remove laitance, then rinsed with clean cold water. The substrate must then be primed with a mixture of Ezee Basecoat mixed with Ezee key. |
| Adhesive Application | |
Allow the primer to dry and then tile with any of the adhesives mentioned below. Ezee Tile, Pro Grip contractors, Union Tile, K Carrim, Build Plumb & Tile or San Marco Adhesives |

| 2 Surface | Preparation |
| Suspend wood strip flooring | The floor must be sanded in order to remove any old paint, polish or sealer. The substrate must then be primed with a mixture of Ezee Tile Basecoat mixed with Ezee Key. |

| Allow the primer to dry and then tile with any of the adhesives listed in No1-Surface with Ezee Bond or you may use Ezee Flexible or Progrip Superbond | |
| 3 Surface | Preparation |
| Rhino Board / Dry Walling | The Rhino must have adequate braces so movement does not occur. The board must then be primed with a mixture of Ezee Tile Basecoat mixed with Ezee Key ( not bonding Liquid ) as the key coat ix will waterproof the Rhino board. |

Allow the primer to dry and then tile with any of the adhesives mentioned below. Ezee Tile, Pro Grip contractors, Union Tile, K Carrim, Build Plumb & Tile or San Marco Adhesives |

| 4 Surface | Preparation |
| Wood Block Flooring or Vinyl Floor coverings | The existing floor covering must be lifted. This will expose the adhesive that the coverings were adhered with. ( Normally a Bitumen Adhesive ) 100% of the Bitumen must be removed and the floor Must be chipped to expose at least 80% of the screed or concrete. The substrate must be primed with a mix of Ezee Basecoat mixed with Ezee Key. |

| Previously Painted Surfaces (Enamel or P.V.A) |
The wall must be chipped to expose at least 80% of the plaster. The substrate must be primed with a mixture of Ezee basecoat mixed with Ezee Key |

| 6 Surface | Preparation |
| In areas where water seepage can occur (Showers, Balconies, Swimming Pools etc) |
Substrate must be primed with Ezee Basecoat mixed with Key coat. If there is Bitumen on the Balcony, 100% has to be removed before the primer is applied. If the client does not want to remove the Bitumen a */- 40mm screed has to get layed and then a waiting period of 4-6 weeks before tiling. |
